BCM Replacement for Fiat/Fiat Re-badged vehicles

Article ID: 501
Last updated: 20 Feb, 2018

Starting from wiTECH Diagnostic Application version 15.01, the BCM replacement procedure is included for the following vehicles:

  • FIAT 500 (FF)
  • FIAT 500L (BF)
  • RAM ProMaster (VF)
  • RAM ProMaster City (VM)
  • Alfa Romeo (4C)

In previous years the BCMs for these vehicles were preprogrammed so technicians did not need to run a routine after BCM installation. With the release of wiTECH 15.01, the BCMs will now be programmed at the dealership by technicians.  This applies to vehicles of MY 2012 to present. During the BCM replacement procedure the original VIN and electronic code (key code) will be required. The electronic code can be obtained by accessing Key Code Application within DealerCONNECT -> Parts -> REFERENCE LIBRARY. Please contact your Parts Department to obtain the electronic code.

This new process requires the diagnostic tool to be logged into DealerCONNECT when running the replacement procedure.  If the procedure is started and the tool is not logged in, the tool will prompt for login during the procedure.  The normal diagnostic tool DealerCONNECT login credentials should be used.

  1. Select the BCM module
  2. Select the Misc. Functions tab
  3. Select “BCM Replaced” and click the start button
  4. Ensure key is in the RUN position
  5. Follow the prompts on the screen to complete the procedure.

Verify that correct VIN is used because once the replacement procedure has been performed, the BCM will be locked.  If the VIN entered does not match the original VIN of the vehicle, the BCM will need to be replaced with correctly programmed VIN.

The Electronic Code obtained from DealerCONNECT Key Code application should be entered when the routine prompts for it as shown below:

  • For FF and VF: Once the new BCM is installed and wiTECH is launched, the normal topology may not appear. Simply select BCM from the list menu and it will open into the normal ECU view.

  • In some cases the vehicle may exhibit a start and stall condition after the BCM is replaced. If this occurs the key learn procedure may need to be run and all keys relearned. Make sure that all keys are present if key relearn is required; keys not present will be locked out.
  • Please ensure the correct BCM Part Number is being used. If you see the following error message, most likely an incorrect Part Number has been used.

  • Once the routine has been successfully completed, the BCM cannot be returned or re-used on another vehicle.

If you run into issues while running the “BCM Replaced” procedure, please contact the wiTECH Help Desk at 1-888-wiTECH-1/1-888-948-3241 or email support@witechtools.com for further assistance.
